Jon Seskevich:Cultivating the Heart of Compassion

In a complicated and often challenging world how do we buffer all of the information we receive and maintain a level of compassion, not just for others, but ourselves?

Join Jon Seskevich as he shares his years of expertise about how to develop a healthy state of mind and reduce physical and mental stress. This talk will include the following topics and so much more. There is something for everyone.

  • Compassion is having the courage to touch pain with love.
  • Science and mind/body medicine.
  • Evidence based relaxation techniques to develop calmness, clarity and release of mental burdens. 
  • Non-pharmacologic approaches for chronic pain/ illness management.
  • Listening to others with an open heart without taking on the pain.
  • Power and practice of kindness in everyday life.
  • Music and nature sounds as listening meditations.
  • The challenge of practicing loving kindness towards ourselves.


Biographical Information

Jon Seskevich RN, BSN, BA, CHTP, is a nurse clinician and certified stress management specialist at one of the country’s foremost medical centers, Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina. Since 1990, this trailblazer in integrative healing has provided a stress and pain management education service for more than forty thousand patients and families in the hospital. 

An award-winning nurse, he is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Nursing and has a BA in Religion from Goddard College. He has authored papers, presented hundreds of talks, recorded five CDs, and has participated in and published research on stress management techniques. 

Jon began his meditation practice in 1972. In 1975, at age 23, he started his training as a teacher of meditation and healing under the mentorship of meditation expert, psychologist, spiritual teacher and writer, Ram Dass (Richard Alpert, Ph.D.), who wrote about Jon,

"His recognition of the need for both a spiritual dimension in healing work and grounded, responsible social action in spiritual work have defined his career in nursing. To that career he has brought a creative energy for integrating, in mind-body healing, meditative practices with stress reduction, healing touch with traditional nursing practices and a spiritual perspective for patients facing traumatic illness”.
As an accomplished singer and musician, Jon has released six albums and appeared onstage at festivals..
